06 September 2009 / Categories: Recent Results and Events, 2009 Compass IC European Junior Challenge 2009 IC Germany victorious in Compass IC European Junior Challenge Eight European IC nations contested the 16 & under Compass IC European Junior Challenge from 1 – 5 September 2009, hosted at the Club Esportiu Valldoreix in Barcelona, Spain, with Germany beating Great Britain in the Final. The eight countries competing included: Germany, Great Britain, Spain, Ireland, Italy, Russia, Sweden and Norway. The International Club (IC) Council, who organised the event, represents over 4000 members from 35 ICs around the world with the Compass IC Junior Challenge taking place in Europe (Spain), South America (Brazil), North America (Florida) and Asia (India). The winners of each Challenge will qualify for the Finals in Delhi in 2010. Tournament Director Shali Hutchins said, ‘It was a great week with the Club Esportiu Valldoreix and the IC of Spain being very helpful and hospitable to all the teams. The standard of tennis was very high with some very competitive tennis being played on clay courts in the wonderful surroundings of the Club. It was a very good social and competitive atmosphere with organised team visits to the Real Club de Barcelona, The Barca Stadium and a tour of the beautiful city’. Teams consisted of 2 boys and 2 girls playing singles and doubles with a mixed doubles tie break shoot out if the score was equal at 3 matches all.
