23 May 2011 / Categories: Recent Results and Events, 2011 IC of France 21 – 22 May 2011 Report by the captain, Mark Beim. The Team Men: Rich Gabb, Mark Beim, John Doran, Chris Hearn, Graham Neale, Steve Algar, Mark Cox, Henk Nijeboer and Roy Henderson Ladies: Rosie Naunton Morgan and Felicity Thomas The weekend was another fantastic few days on the clay in Paris. This year we played at a new venue Stade Francais a beautiful tennis club near Roland Garros. After the first day the IC of GB did very well to draw level after going into the last round a couple of rubbers down. Special mention goes to Roy Henderson and Steve Algar managing to get a very important doubles win in the last round. The evening dinner was held at the club outside in their gardens, our IC captain, Henk Nijeboer, entertained us with a fluent and very professional speech! The following day was extremely exciting as we were down by 2 matches going into the last round. Amazingly, our team pulled through and I very pleased to say we won by one match, 15-14! The weekend was again a great success not only in winning but we had a number of new players that played for their first time and combined with our team supporters who were excellent throughout, created a wonderful team spirit and it was a honour to be captain. Special match mentions were Rosie and Felicity in a thrilling doubles win, Roy Henderson winning a three set epic and the great Mark Cox winning convincingly against a tough opponent in Michel Leclercq! The whole team did fantastically well and they can be very proud of their efforts. Thanks again to my team for making it a great and fun weekend!
