MALLORCA TENNIS GOLF

Match Result: IC of GB (runners-up)
Date: Thursday 20th - Sunday 23rd October 2016
Venue: Mallorca

The IC of GB participated in the 2016 Mallorca Tennis Golf Challenge against the IC of Denmark and Spain held at the beach resort of Cala Mesquida in the North East of Mallorca on 20/21/22nd October.

Our team consisted of Seb Jackson, Dan Lobb, David Mills, Dave Culshaw, Simon Curtis and Shamus Donald.

We beat the IC of Denmark 5-2 on Thursday, which was a great effort considering most of our players went straight from the airport onto the tennis and golf courses before they got to the hotel. Seb and Simon won three tennis rubbers and David and Dave won their tennis and golf matches to give us the five rubbers and the win.

On Saturday came the local Spanish challenge. It was a thrilling match. On the tennis court, we lost out in both Singles, but Seb and Dan won a superb doubles match, winning 14-12 in the third set tie break. On the golf course, poor old Shamus came across a spaniard in top form, playing to scratch on a handicap of 10. Simon managed to win a half point in the second golf match, putting the match score at 3.5 - 1.5 to the Spanish. Meanwhile, David and Dave had won their tennis doubles match, leaving it all to play for in the final golf match. The whole GB team joined David and Dave on the 14th hole, where they were 1 down. It all came to the 18th hole, where David Mills showed his steely nerve by hitting the fairway whilst the opposition went astray. The Golf match was won and the tie levelled at 3.5 to 3.5.

Spain ended up winning the overall competition, with IC of GB a close runner up due to the Spanish winning one more rubber against the Danish.

Our thanks to the Spanish IC who looked after us so magnificently and the British team who entered into the spirit of the event. We played at three lovely golf courses and were entertained at some wonderful restaurants and local bars.

And finally a mention to our rest day, where the competitive spirit of the IC continued with an England vs Scotland Golf Match, which England Won 2 - 0.
