The IC of Mexico wins the IC Rod Laver Junior Challenge North American and Caribbean qualifier

The 2024 IC Rod Laver Junior Challenge North American and qualifier took place in November in the beautiful island of Barbados, with matches being played at the Barbados Yacht Club. Four teams took part from the ICs of Canada, Mexico, USA and the hosts Barbados, over three days of highly competitive and entertaining tennis – despite a number of rain delays over the first two days of competition.

The event featured some memorable off-court social activities in addition to the tennis, including a beach BBQ, pasta night and a philanthropy clinic with children from a local orphanage.

After a hard-fought final between the ICs of the USA and Mexico, it was ultimately the IC of Mexico who took home the victory after a deciding mixed doubles super tiebreak under the lights.

The customary sportsmanship medals were presented to Bronwyn Duggan (IC Canada) and Valentino Arjona (IC Mexico) for their exceptional contributions on and off the court.  All medals and the winners’ plate were made from local a local pottery, literally enabling the players the opportunity to take away “a piece of Barbados” to cherish forever.

Overall, the IC North America and Caribbean Junior Event was a tremendous success. From bananas to beach BBQs, Powerades to Pina Coladas (non-alcoholic of course!), the juniors were fueled with energy and displayed tremendous spirit in hard-fought matches whilst making friends and memories to last a lifetime!

The IC of Mexico will progress to the Worldwide Finals taking place in Barcelona in July.
