Potter Cup 2022

Venues: Real Club and Polo Club, Barcelona

Result: GB Ladies finish 4th

Team: Leyla Ogan (Captain), Eilidh Smith, Debbie Hale

Another fanatsic event held at the beautiful clubs in Barcelona. The ladies event took place for 2 days at the Real Club, and the final day at the Polo Club Barcelona. We are very lucky to have this event. There are 8 teams and its a knock out event. On the Thursday night we had a welcome cocktail party, and Friday and Saturday formal dinners and the Real and Polo Club. The tennis is international level, and its great to spend time with IC friends in such a great city.

The ladies team were seeded 4th and drew France first round. Eilidh stepped up and battled through, and gave the team an important first win. Eilidh was playing confident clay court tennis, and has recently won bronze in the World Champs and was looking comfortable on the clay.

I started slowly but battled through and got the win. Debbie and I played the doubles and won the day 3.0. Great to get Debbie involved who is a new IC member and also played in the World Championships.

Semi finals v Spain.

We know the Spanish team well and we knew this would be a big battle for us. Eilidh competed and fought well but unfortunalty went down in 3 sets. I found some good clay court tennis and really enjoyed the challenge but also lost.

We did ourselves proud to push the spanish team, and we were getting better and better on the clay.

3rd/ 4th play off v Germany

Debbie played singles, and had a great match and was good for her to get some more clay court experience. I lost in a champs tie break to a player who was formerly ranked inside WTA 120.

We were placed 4th and we were proud of this. The level was very high and it has motivated us to try and compete more at this level. As always fantastic team spirit, and great to have the mens team there too. It is a great balance of competitive tennis and social. We have the best experiences and the spanish people and clubs are very hospiitable.

A big thank you to IC of GB who support this event and enter us every year.

Match captain: Leyla Ogan
