Fixture: IC of GB v UKAFLTA

Venue: Halton Tennis Club

Result: IC of GB Win

The match was played at Halton Tennis Club on the indoor courts due to the outside courts being refurbished. The teams comprised of 3 pairs unlike previous years as more players were interested in playing in this match. 

The camaraderie and competitiveness from both teams were as evident this year as in previous years and the matches were played in a true sportsmanlike manner. 

All of the matches were close but after two rounds the UKAFLTA team ably led by Ben Rogers were 4-2 up. 

Due to the closeness of the first two rounds and the time taken to complete those matches it was decided to play a pro set, the first to 8 games with a two game lead for the final round. 

After keenly contested matches Lewis Barnes and Felipe Bunster won their match 8-6 and Tristan Farron-Mahon and Jamie Muirhead won their match 8-4. 

All players then converged to watch the final match finish as it was then down to Allan Pengelly and Charles Durham to win their match and for the IC of GB team to retain the trophy. 

Allan Pengelly served out a very hard fought final game after breaking their opponents’ serve in the previous game to secure the win for the IC of GB team. 

We were then entertained to dinner in Halton House, a fitting end to a very enjoyable afternoon. My sincere thanks to Ben Rogers for all the arrangements for the tennis and the dinner and for the donation of the new trophy. 

My congratulations to both teams on a hard fought match and my thanks to my team for playing in this fixture and for the outstanding way you all completed.
