Puente Romano 30th Sep - 1st Oct 2017 Result: IC of GB 0 – 6 Puente Romano Venue: Puente Romano, Marbella, Spain This September saw another fabulous trip to Spain involving an IC of GB team that featured Johnny Barr (Captain), Gary Drake, Lewis Burton , Mark Loosemore and Rob Searle. The match was played at the magnificent Puente Romano Resort in Marbella, with the Brits looking to win for a second year in a row. However, Puente Romano had other plans and they put out a very strong team with five former top 500 players in Pato Clavet (ATP #18), David Sanchez (ATP #41), Pepe Imaz (ATP #146), Sergio Gomez (ATP #222) and Marco Djokovic (brother of someone rather more infamous and himself an ex top #500 ATP player), along with Resident Czech Pro Alex Dvorak and former Welsh International Shaun Leleu. In a fabulous format of 3 singles and 3 doubles, the score of 6-0 to the host team doesn’t do justice to the closely fought contest. The match was played in true IC spirit, both on and off the court, and it was an absolute pleasure to play against a huge array of former top ATP players who still play to a phenomenal level. Our thanks to Shaun Leleu and Puente Romano for organising such a great fixture. We were royally hosted and entertained at this magnificent resort at the same time as their Seniors Masters Tennis event including tennis legends such as McEnroe / Pioline / Noah / Grosjean / Wilander / Cash and eventual winner Carlos Moya. We look forward to taking on Puente Romano again in 2018 and will lick our wounds with a smile on our face knowing that we played our part in a most magnificent fixture.
