IC of GB v Cambridge University

Fixture:IC of GB v Cambridge University

Date: 16th June 2024

Venue: Fenners, Cambridge

Result: Cambridge win 6-3

On Sunday 16th June 2024, a 6-man IC team travelled to Cambridge to contest the annual fixture against the current Cambridge University team. With the Fenners grass courts still a little sleek from the previous day's rain, the teams decided to commence the tie with the doubles round, in which the IC were able to clinch two of the three rubbers to take a 2-1 lead into the afternoon.

The singles line-up always promised to feature some close matches, and so it proved. Ed Corrie led the charge at number 1, and came through a couple of tight sets against Patrick Foley, giving the IC a 3-1 lead. Unfortunately the rest of the team couldn't follow suit, losing the remaining 5 singles matches, with 4 of them being decided on match tie-breaks, resulting in a hard-fought 6-3 victory to Cambridge.

It was a fantastic day of tennis, with highly competitive matches played in a great spirit on beautiful grass courts in the June sunshine.
