IC Week – La Carreta Cup

FIXTURE: IC WEEK – LA CARRETA CUP

VENUE: LEOPOLD CLUB, BRUSSELS, BELGIUM

RESULT: 3rd PLACE

La Carreta Cup team consisted of 3 players Jo Shepherd, Judy Horn and Karen Cass and is in the format of two singles matches followed by a doubles match. The event was held at the Leopold Club with excellent clay courts and it was a privilege to play at such a lovely venue. There were eight entries in La Carreta Cup being Belgium, Canada, Germany, Great Britain, Luxembourg, Spain, South Africa and USA. For our first match we drew Spain. Convincing victories in both singles matches for Jo and Judy followed by another convincing win in the doubles for Jo and Karen securing a 3-0 victory. Through to the semi-finals and up against a very strong South African side. Despite some closely fought matches we lost 3-0 with South Africa being the eventual winners. So through to the 3rd/4th play off against the home nation Belgium. Judy won the first singles with a convincing win. This was followed by an extremely close singles with Jo winning 11-9 in the 3rd set tie break to win the tie 2-0. A friendly doubles match for Judy and Karen was played after this. A great achievement to come 3rd against some strong clay court teams.

Well done to everyone involved for the great tennis and team spirit displayed throughout the week, exciting matches and lots of fun.
