IC of GB Sportsmanship Award 2022 - Miles Maclagan John Feaver, President and Anne Clark, Chair of the IC of GB, had the pleasure of presenting the 2022 IC of GB Sportsmanship Award to Miles Maclagan during the Championships at Wimbledon. The IC of GB Sportsmanship Award is an annual award to the British tennis player, who by his or her actions on and off the court has exhibited a high standard of sportsmanship and contributed to the IC ideal of fostering international friendship through tennis. The list of previous winners is impressive with Annabel Croft receiving the award in 2021 and Gordon Reid in 2020. The IC helps promote and renew friendships across the net and the world encouraging fair play and sportsmanship, something that Miles has consistently done throughout his career:- A Zambian born British tennis coach, Miles left Zimbabwe in 1988 to pursue tennis in the UK, reaching a highest ranking of 172 in singles and 200 in doubles. At 16, Miles was the British number one junior, ahead of the likes of Andrew Richardson, Barry Cowan and Tim Henman reaching the semi finals of the junior singles event at Wimbledon. He subsequently played Davis Cup in three ties for Great Britain making his debut against Slovakia in 1995 and coming out of retirement to partner Tim Henman to victory against Thailand at Birmingham in 2002. At Wimbledon in 1999, Miles took a two set to love lead against Boris Becker and had three match points on Becker's serve in the fourth set, before eventually losing in five sets. His last match was at Wimbledon 2003. Following a successful competitive career, Miles became a world class coach, coaching Andy Murray for 3-4 years, also coaching Laura Robson as well as many other top male and female professionals. Married with two young children, Miles still coaches choosing not to tour any more. Instead, he spends more time as a commentator and analyst, at which he is extremely accomplished. Universally popular among his peers and liked and respected by all. In a period when reliability and trustworthiness seem to have gone out of fashion, Miles stands out as a man of his word with the highest integrity. Many congratulations to Miles!
