IC of GB vs AELTC - March 2025 29th March 2025 AELTC vs. IC of GB The day started off with sunshine and blue skies. Perfectly timed after many chilling winter league matches on court and the start of the summer schedule already in the diary. Everyone was looking forward to this event not only because of the venue but due to the mix of different age groups, open, 45’s and 55’s including doubles followed by mixed doubles. My role as captain was made easy by starting off with coffee and croissant on the terrace, meeting and mixing with the IC players followed by a group photo on the steps of the clubhouse entrance. We then strolled over to the very impressive indoor complex. For those who haven’t already seen it, the 6 indoor courts are surrounded by very inviting outdoor Har-Tru courts together with indoor parking, business facilities and more changing rooms. The games began without delay and tight points were instantly in action with long rallies, put away volleys, unreachable serves and the odd ace. From the balcony and score boards I was told later that it wasn’t evident which side was ahead. However, after 4 hours of battling with tactical chat, hand signals and encouraging racquet tapping between points it became apparent that we were a clear 2nd. The AELTC had fielded a strong team who were world class and match tight when it counted. Champagne followed by a delicious lunch was served and a few words were given by myself, fellow AELTC captain Emily Arbuthnott with a very nice Wimbledon book for us all to take away.
