Wallenberg Trophy 2019 28/29th April 2019 The IC of GB scored a stunning success to win the Wallenberg trophy in convincing style. This event, staged annually between the I/C's of GB, Germany, France and Sweden is one of the most prestigious and keenly fought in the I/C calendar. The host nation rotates each year with GB welcoming visiting teams to David Lloyd Dudley over the weekend of 27th and 28th April for the 2 day match. The GB team; Teresa Catlin, Manisha Foster, Hugh Jaques and captain David Collins, started well by seeing off France 6-0 in the semi final,. Despite the scoreline there were some very close matches with Hugh squeezing through 11-9 in a final set tiebreak against Antoine Bernard and Manisha also winning 10-4 in the final set against Laure-Eline Faure. Sweden’s win against Germany ensured they would face GB in Sunday’s final. After treating the visiting IC teams to some truly British hospitality on Saturday night at a nearby vineyard, the stage was set for the showdown to decide the 2019 winners. Hugh & Manisha managed again to win both their singles and the mixed, powering GB into a 3-0 lead. The day was capped by a stunning win for David and Teresa against the Swedish pair of Maria Capistrano and former ATP top 20 player Henrik Holm, completing a 5-1 win for GB and securing their first Wallenberg trophy win since 2005. Many thanks go to David Collins for organising a great weekend of tennis and fun for all and to the team at David Lloyd Dudley for allowing us to use their excellent indoor facilities
